Experiential Education & Aquatics Coordinator, 7/2017-6/2023

Korea International School Jeju Campus, KISJ {8 Global Edu-ro, 260 beon-gil, Daejeong-eup, Seogwipo-si, Jeju-do, South Korea 63644} Experiential Education Coordinator: Responsible for the development and implementation of an experiential education program for the Elementary and Middle school divisions at KISJ. The program focused on outdoor and environmental education, cultivating students grit and perseverance through respect and connection with our natural world. I created over 25 curriculum based Field Trips for Junior Kindergarten through Grade 8, engaging students in environmental, historical, and cultural adventures on Jeju Island. I also converted a classroom into a 'Nature Space' to keep students connected to the outdoors during mandated COVID restrictions. 

Aquatics Coordinator: Delivered the American Red Cross 'Learn-to-Swim' Water Safety Instruction curriculum to Elementary and Middle School students (Junior Kindergarten - Grade 8). Provided physical and health education to nurture the personal, social, and emotional well-being of all students. Managed all primary and Middle School aquatics events while coaching both divisional swim teams.

Developed lessons that fostered students agility, coordination, self-confidence, communication, and collaboration. Created and directed the Nha Be Elementary Swim Club. Continued to cultivate and advocate for a comprehensive outdoor education program at AIS. Supported the planning and led the 5th Grade “Week Without Walls” outdoor educational excursion, introducing students to outdoor adventure sports like rock climbing, abseiling, trekking, and kayaking.

English Language Development Specialist, 8/2013-6/2015

American International School {220 Nguyen Van Tao, Nha Be District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam} Assisted the establishment of a comprehensive English Language Development program at a new American International School Elementary campus. Created lessons for both "push-in" and "pull-out" instructional settings and developed strategies to support students with a range of English language proficiency levels. All lessons were developed from the perspective of a naturalist to keep students engaged and simultaneously educate them about environmental/social issues related to Southeast Asia and specific to Vietnam.

{Historic Savage Mill, 8600 Foundry St #50, Savage, MD 20763} Guided visitors through a variety of team-building activities and challenges on ropes courses, zip-lines and climbing walls. Led geo-cashing/orienteering course challenges as well as informational hikes as an outdoor educator and naturalist. Provided a safe and educational learning environment for all guests with a focus on collaborative teamwork.

REI, Recreational Equipment Incorporated {College Park & Columbia MD} Provided customers with superior product and outdoor recreational knowledge as well as customer service. Conducted both in-store classes and programs in the field as an Outdoor School Instructor. Responsible for the creation of exceptional lesson plans, appropriate delivery of class content, and the safety of all participants involved. 

Piney Run Park Naturalist, 12/2010-5/2012                                 

Piney Run Park {30 Martz Road, Sykesville MD 21784} Developed and executed all environmental educational programs, including a Summer Nature Camp, Nature Center exhibits, displays, guides and marketing tools, for public and private guests (primary/secondary school students, senior citizens, boy/girl scout troops, general public, special events, etc.). Managed all commercial related aspects of the Nature Center, doubling revenue over the course of a year and reducing employee spending by nearly 50%. Organized and led the Nature Center's volunteer programs (senior volunteer program, junior naturalist program, animal adoption program) and all aspects of volunteer coordinating. Assisted in the hiring/training of Nature Center staff, park staff and volunteers. Led on-site and off-site educational day-hikes, backpacking trips, canoe/kayak paddles, and overnight campouts. Cared for the daily needs of the animals who called Piney Run Nature Center their home – Birds of Prey, Turtles, Snakes, various amphibians from toads to frogs and salamanders, Brazilian black tarantula(s), Madagascar hissing cockroaches and a hive of Honey Bee’s.

Crew Supervisor/Naturalist, 9/2009-9/2010              

Nevada Conservation Corps, NCC {The Great Basin Institute, Las Vegas/Reno NV} Trained and supervised a crew of ten international and ten AmeriCorps volunteers on Leave-No-Trace, camping/survival skills, safety in the outdoors, proper tool use and maintenance, various conservation and restoration techniques, while leading conservation projects throughout the state of Nevada -primarily the Mojave and Great Basin deserts. Skilled in trail construction/maintenance, road decommissioning, invasive species removal, habitat restoration/construction, wildfire restoration, desert cleanup, grip hoist/sky line use, rock work, and more. Cultivated positive relationships with GBI and various project partners (US Forest Service, US Park Service, Public Lands Institute, US Fish and Wildlife) by providing exceptional customer service through fostering a work environment based on teamwork and respect, communication and honesty, sweat and sore muscles. Developed as an environmental educator and Naturalist by teaching lessons on desert plants, flora, fauna, geology, and hydrology.

Pickering Creek Audubon Center {11450 Audubon Ln, Easton, MD 21601} Provided experiential learning opportunities and environmental education instruction to primary and secondary Talbot County students both at their home-schools and on field trip visits to the Pickering Creek Audubon Center. Delivered specialized programs (Project Wild, Project Wet, and AWE) and developed supplemental lessons and environmental education programs for the educational department as well as the Eco-Camp. Designed, coordinated, and installed a 120 square foot native garden project which eradicated invasive bamboo and yielded healthy wildlife habitat.
